The Faribault Falcons sent five wrestlers to the individual portion of the MSHSL State Wrestling Tournament after finishing second in the section team tournament for the second straight year.

I attended the annual Wrestling Welcome Home Breakfast at the Eagles Club on Sunday and had the good fortune of sitting and conversing with head coach Jesse Armbruster.

He was very proud of senior Felipe Ramirez placing fifth and said he was truly the third-best wrestler in the weight class but had some tough luck, which unfortunately is what can happen.

Even more impressive was Austin Rendler's second-place finish at 220 pounds and what makes Armbruster happiest is Rendler will be back next year. He truly flew under the radar and was remarkable the last month of the season.

Freshman Josh Oathhoudt participated at 126 pounds and lost both his matches, finishing his season with a 23-17 mark.

Junior Cain Van Ryan was pinned in his first match in 3:31 and his opponent then lost the next round, ending his time in the field. He had a 31-10 season.

Junior Dillon McEacharan lost two matches and finished with a 30-9 record.
