April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Statistics show one in five women and one in 71 men will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives.

Hope Center of Faribault serves all of Rice County, and their mission statement says it all: "The mission of Hope Center is to create zero tolerance for sexual and domestic violence through Healing, Outreach, Prevention and Education.  Through innovative programming we offer direct support to victims of violence in Rice County, collaborative support to other organizations that serve victims, and educational support to the entire community."

Hope Center Executive Director Erica Staab Absher and Tour of Tables event chairwoman Ardy Murphy stopped by the KDHL studio to inform us about the fundraiser.

Murphy brought the Tour of Tables idea from her hometown of Adrian in southwestern Minnesota several years ago after attending an event there on her birthday. It's been a hit ever since in Faribault.

The fundraiser will be April 17 at the Faribault American Legion, with more than 20 tables decorated in various themes.

The host or hostess of the table invites people, who pay $25 each, and a silent auction is also held to raise money.

Remember, the Bethlehem Academy Heroes For Hope fundraising run/walk is tomorrow on the Rice County Fairgrounds. A portion of those proceeds go to the Hope Center, Whispers of Hope and Ruth's House of Hope. All proceeds after the meal is paid for go to the Hope Center in Faribault.

The Crisis Line number is staffed 24/7 and is (800) 607-2330.
