Is Your Shed Up To Code In Faribault? Here’s What You Need To Know
Whether it's Cheryl's She-Shed or Chris' He-Shed or just a plain ol' garden shed it's got to be up to code and compliant in Faribault. In a recent Facebook post from the City of Faribault, "In recent weeks, the City of Faribault has seen an increased number of shed complaints about non-compliance." So what makes your shed compliant? Here is what the City of Faribault shared.
The City of Faribault categorizes your shed as an accessory building. Also considered accessory buildings are garages and carports. You are only allowed two of these buildings on your property. According to an online Q & A from the City of Faribault "the first up to 864 square feet in floor area and a second up to 120 square feet in area. The maximum height of any such structure is limited to 16 feet in height and sidewall height of 9 feet. Additional wall height can be permitted when additional distance from a property line is provided."
You also need your permits before erecting a shed of a certain size. According to the City of Faribault; "Building permits are required for all accessory structures in excess of 200 square feet. For structures that require a permit, materials and colors should closely match that of the principal structure; in no case is corrugated metal acceptable building material. Zoning Certificates are required for all accessory structures over 80 sq. ft."
