Shafer, MN (KROC-AM News) - Authorities in east-central Minnesota are reporting the death of a woman in a fire Sunday night.

A news release issued by the Chisago County Sheriff's Office says multiple 911 calls came in just before 10 PM Sunday from people reporting that heavy, black smoke was coming from an apartment building in the town of Shafer, near the Minnesota-Wisconsin border just east of Taylor Falls. When deputies and firefighters arrived at the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the six unit apartment building.

The Sheriff's Office says the emergency responders immediately began searching and evacuating the burning building and found the woman in her 60’s dead inside her apartment unit. Her name has not been released.

The news release says the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office is assisting with the investigation. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
