Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has worked out a plea agreement for a road rage incident that occurred last summer.

35-year-old Aaron Gustafson was originally charged with two counts of second-degree assault for allegedly pointing a gun at another vehicle while driving on Highway 52 in Rochester. Under the plea deal, he admitted to a felony count of threats of violence, while the other charges were dismissed.

According to the criminal complaint, two women were in a vehicle headed north on Highway 52 when they came upon a slower-moving vehicle in the left lane. After they passed the vehicle in the right lane, the women stated that the other driver responded by brandishing a handgun and pointing it in the direction of their vehicle.

They also alleged that he sped up and attempted to pull alongside their vehicle, but the woman driving was able to speed up and exited Highway 52. The women then met up with a State Trooper and provided a description of the man, the gun, and the license plate number of his vehicle. That led to the arrest of Gustafson, who according to the original charges, had a loaded 9 mm handgun in his possession.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Gustafson faces a recommended sentence of two years on probation, and if he meets the terms of his probation, the felony conviction will be reduced to a misdemeanor on his criminal record. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 10.
