A beloved bakery in Southeast Minnesota has sadly temporarily closed its doors. A note was shared by the owners this week letting their fans and the public know the devastating news of a fire that caused significant damage to the business.

Fire Forces Temporary Closure of Popular Plainview Bakery
The owner of Cakes Etcetera in Plainview, Minnesota, left a note on Facebook with the heartbreaking news that the shop at 221 W Broadway will be closed until further notice.
It is with a Heavy Heart that I have to share that Cakes Etcetera will be CLOSED until further notice due to a Fire at the Shop.
Upcoming Events and Cake Orders Have Been Cancelled
The note shared also stated that this unexpected closure means that Cakes Etcetera will miss several busy summer events. Unfortunately, the upcoming orders for customers would also need to be cancelled.
I was so looking Forward to seeing everyone for Crazy Days, Corn on the Cob Days, and filling several upcoming cake and cupcake orders. Unfortunately, those events and orders will have to be canceled while we focus on Cleanup, Repairs, and Rebuilding.
Quick Thinking Helped Save This Plainview, MN Business
Thankfully, the right people were nearby at the right time when the fire started, and the bakery owner also credited several individuals who acted immediately. The quick actions of these individuals helped prevent this from becoming an even larger disaster.
I want to give a Special Thank You to the Plainview Fire Department for their quick response and incredible work containing the fire. I'd also like to thank my neighbor, Paul, for noticing the fire and immediately calling 911. Because of his quick actions and the outstanding work of our Firefighters, what could have become a devastating fire affecting the entire block was stopped before it got that far.

Community Support For The Bakery Is Already Pouring In
Since sharing this devastating news and the temporary closure, Sam from Cakes Etcetera says that she has been overwhelmed by the prayers, encouraging notes, and help offered throughout the community.

When Will Cakes Etcetera Reopen In Plainview, MN?
At this time, there isn't a timeline yet to reopen.
The next steps include cleanup, renovations, and working through the insurance process...and then, customers can once again enjoy all of the great treats made at this Southeastern Minnesota bakery.
