Kenyon-Wanamingo, Byron School Questions on Ballot

The Kenyon-Wanamingo and Byron school districts are two of the approximately dozen districts in Minnesota to ask voters to go to the polls tomorrow and vote for additional dollars for their schools.

Kenyon-Wanamingo has two combined polling places for people to go vote in the November 2, 2021 general election.

Wanamingo Community Center is the site for residents of these areas in Independent School District No. 2172.

Polls open November 2, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The Levy Referendum request in Kenyon-Wanamingo is to increase general education revenue by $950 per pupil.  A portion of the new authority would replace the existing referendum authorization of $295.68 per pupil scheduled to expire after taxes payable in 2021.

The proposed referendum revenue authorization would increase each year by the rate of inflation and be applicable for ten years beginning with taxes payable in 2022, unless otherwise revoked or reduced as provided by law.

Because it's a levy increase for educational funding and not a building bond request for agricultural property (both homestead and non-homestead) the taxes for K-W school district will be based on the value of the house, garage and surrounding one acre of land only.

In Byron voting takes place at the Byron Middle School.

There are two questions on their ballot.  Question one asks permission to issue General Obligation Bonds in the amount of $23,050,000 for various building upgrades and construction of a new District office.

Question 2 asks voters to approve $21,505,000 for updates to the high school and middle school, athletic facilities updates and a new auditorium.

Byron attempted to pass similar measures in May of this year and May of last year.
