KFC Pulls 64-Year-Old Slogan, Deemed Inappropriate For 2020
Kentucky Fried Chicken is often described as "Finger Lickin' Good". After an announcement, yesterday it will just be described as "good" moving forward for the near future. Yesterday KFC, in a press release, announced that it was pausing the 64-year-old slogan, after feeling due to the current climate, it's wholly inappropriate to be touching your nose, mouth, or face.
The release puts it perfectly when it describes their product, and tastefully let's us know they aren't dropping the slogan for good, it's just being paused.
"Our chicken is, quite simply, Finger Lickin’ Good. Whether it’s the perfectly cooked chicken on the bone or the secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices, we’ll never know. But the idea of even one little bit going to waste is no joke.
Think we can all agree, this year has been like no other and, right now, our slogan doesn’t feel quite right.
So, for that reason, we’ll be pressing pause on using it in our advertising, for a little while."
Global chief marketing officer, Catherine Tan-Gillespie, stated in the release, "We find ourselves in a unique situation—having an iconic slogan that doesn’t quite fit in the current environment. While we are pausing the use of It’s Finger Lickin’ Good, rest assured the food craved by so many people around the world isn’t changing one bit."
In addition to the announcement online, KFC also creatively censored some old advertising stills to remove the words 'finger' and 'lickin'' which just leave "It's Good", subtly suggesting that will be the temporary slogan.
Since we are talking about a 64-year-old catchphrase being paused, see how KFC's logo has changed over the years.
