Due to the lack of rain fall in parts of the State, drought levels are higher than expected. With this, boaters are reporting damage to their vessels from "Rocks and Obstructions in the water". According to Bring Me the News, Kandiyohi County Sheriffs office has been receiving calls reporting the issues and are urging boaters to travel on parts of lakes further from the shores and to also use depth gage systems to avoid shallow waters. They also remind boaters to take extra precautions in areas of the lake marked by danger or hazard buoys.

According to the National Drought and Mitigation Center, northeastern and west-central Minnesota are seeing the highest intensity of drought with some areas in "moderate drought" levels.
