If you like beer -- and you like to try a lot of different kinds -- you'll want to plan to trip to Minnesota's Best Beer Bar, which is less than an hour from Faribault.

That's according to the good folks over at Food & Wine (and, yes, that's the same magazine that sponsors the show, Top Chef, which stars Padma Lakshmi and Tom Collechio as judges) who have just published a list of the Best Beer Bars in Each State.

First off, what they call a 'beer bar' is a bit of a grey area. "You know a great beer bar when you’re in one. There’s something about the beer menu, the food, the service, the atmosphere, and sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with other beer lovers who were drawn there for the same reasons," That's what Jess Baker, editor in chief of CraftBeer.com, said in announcing the results of this year's survey on FoodandWine.com.

So which Beer Bar is the Best in Minnesota? That honor goes to a bar called Republic MPLS, located on Cedar Avenue, near the University of Minnesota's West Bank. Their website says they offer nearly 50 different beers on tap (including one from Southern Minnesotar's own Forager Brewery). It's a pretty cool place-- I stopped in a tall cool one a few years ago when we were doing a Pedal Pub trip with a group of friends. You can check out more about their menu HERE.

Over in my home state of Wisconsin, Garth's Brew Bar in Madison was named Best Beer Bar and down in Iowa, the Cellar Peanut Pub in Pella won Best Beer Bar honors. You can get more on the Best Beer Bars in each state HERE. Cheers!
