The Dundas Dukes defeated the Blaine Fusion 6-1 and the Northfield Knights dispatched the Champlin LoGators 9-1 to survive the first round of the Class B State Amateur Baseball Tournament in Jordan Saturday.  Todd Mathison went the distance scattering 6 hits with 9 strikeouts and no walks in the Dukes win and his younger brother Jake went the first 8 innings striking out 10 and walking 2 while allowing 5 hits.  Both allowed 1 earned run in their victories.

Dundas was behind 1-0 going into the sixth inning when they erupted for 4 runs.  With 1 out Steve Loos was hit by a pitch.  Mike Ludwig doubled placing runners at second and third.  Tyler Jones connected for an RBI single and runners advanced a base due to an error.  Blaine then made a pitching change.  Following a strikeout Jonathon Bishop had a 2 RBI single.  Following a walk Carson Jones hit an RBI single. Jones had 3 hits for Dundas including a double.

Dundas added two more runs in the 8th inning and advanced to next weekend when double elimination kicks in.  The Dukes will play the winner of Sunday's Cold Spring/Shakopee game Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Shakopee.

Northfield scored six runs in the third inning on a bases clearing triple by Eric Pittman and a 3 run homer by Aldon Severson.  The two combined for 7 RBI.  Severson with 4 RBI and Pittman 3 RBI.  Northfield was also led at the plate by Tommy McDonald with 2 hits and 2 walks.

The Knights had 9 hits and Champlin 6, both of the LoGators errors factored in the scoring.  Northfield played error free ball.

Northfield plays Friday at 5:00 p.m. in New Prague against the winner of Sunday's game between Moorhead and Chaska.
