Northfield Girls Hockey Escapes Faribault with Overtime Win
The Faribault Falcons and Northfield Raiders gave their fans a terrific girls hockey game Tuesday night at the Faribault Ice Arena. Northfield eked out a 3-2 overtime win.
The Raiders had 25 shots on goal and the Falcons 22. Each team was 1 for 1 on the power play. Talk about an even game and this was it. There was no scoring in the first period.
Northfield had 8 shots on goal and Faribault 6. In the second period the shots were 7-3 in favor of Faribault and Northfield had the edge in the third period 12 to 7. Each team had two shots in the overtime.
Junior Lizzy Morsching (9) scored 2:36 into the overtime with an assist from freshman Jessica Boland (12) to secure the Raider victory.
The first goal came 5:16 into the second period when Northfield's Jessica Boland (16) connected on a power play goal with assists to Lizzy Morsching ( and junior Kate Boland (18).
Just under three minutes later (8:09) Kate Boland (13) scored unassisted and the Raiders were up 2-0.
With 1:20 to go in the second period Falcon junior Kayli Burkhartzmeyer (11) connected for a power play goal with assists to sophomore Olivia Williamson (16) and senior Allyson McCoshen (8) and after two periods the score was 2-1 Northfield.
7:36 of the third period Williamson (29) got an unassisted goal to tie the game.
Northfield senior goalie Mallory Tidona had 20 saves and Faribault senior goalie Camryn Salmonsen 22 saves.
