The Northfield Raiders girls and boys basketball teams defeated Faribault at Nomeland Gym last night.  Both games were entertaining with the Raiders girls winning by 6 and the boys by 7 points.  Scores were 55-49 and 67-60.

In the girls game 6'0 junior Annika Richardson had 21 first half points to give Northfield a 28-24 halftime lead after Faribault led most of the half.  Turnovers again were the story for the Falcons with the Raiders scoring 24 points in the game off 23 turnovers.

Richardson was held to one field goal in the second half finishing with 24 points.  Faribault 5'9 freshman Isabel Herda had the primary duty of sticking to Richardson like cooking spray to a frying pan.  That's why Herda was named our Malecha's Auto Body Crunch Time Defender of the Game.

5'8 sophomore Evy Vettrus led the Falcons with 17 points.  6'0 freshman Otaifo Esenabhalu added 12 points and several rebounds.  They were named our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game.

6'0 sophomore Maryn Hart finished with 8 points to give Faribault post players a combined 24 points.  The big O has I call Osenabhalu had several put backs in addition to post entry passes leading to layups.  She did not shoot a free throw in the game.  In fact neither did Faribault senior Zoe Fronk who finished with 4 points.

The Falcons were 3 of 11 from the free throw line.  Raiders 11 of 18.  Northfield sophomore 5'6 Samantha Ims tallied 11 points, junior 5'11  Emma Rasmussen 8 points.

Faribault is now 0-12 in the conference, 0-14 overall.  The Raiders 4-7 in the Big Nine, 4-10 overall.

The Falcons boys led early but free throws proved to be the difference in their game also.  Northfield led 33-30 at the half in large part due to 6 of 8 shooting at the free throw line while Faribault was 1 of 2.  The Falcons tallied five three point baskets while the Raiders attacked the basket.

In the second half Northfield had 6 total field goals and was 19 of 27 from the charity stripe.  Faribault was 5 of 8 from the free throw line with 11 field goals.

The Falcons had 23 field goals including 8 three point baskets in the game.  The Raiders 16 field goals and 3 makes from beyond the arc.

Junior Kip Schetnan led Northfield with 22 points, 10 at the free throw line,  Classmate Karsten Clay scred 7 of his 22 pints at the line.

The final free throw totals were 25 of 35 for the Raiders, 6 of 10 for Faribault.

Junior 6'0 John Palmer led the Falcons with 19 points, 4 three point baskets.  Senior 6'5 Abdi Abdullahi finished with 16 points.  Junior 6'5 Nick Ehlers added 9 points.  Ehlers and Palmer were Faribault State Farm Insurance Faribault Players of the Game.  Abdullahi was our Malecha's Auto Body Crunch Time Defender of the Game.

Northfield is now 3-6 in the Big Nine, 4-9 overall.  The Falcons fall to 0-10 in league play, 1-10 overall.
