NWS: “Highest Amounts Of Snow Expected In Southern MN”
Well, here we go! The snow has begun to fall here in Southern Minnesota and the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities has moved the bullseye from Rice County to the West. The highest snowfall totals are expected to be in a line from Redwood Falls to Mankato.
Albert Lea, Mankato, and Redwood Falls are all expected to receive 4-7" of new snow by the time the system has moved through late tonight into early tomorrow morning.
The biggest hazard for those who are out in the snow will be travel being impacted by the freshly fallen snow resulting in slippery roads.
The forecast for the Faribault area has changed to reflect only about an inch of snow during the day today and another 1-3" tonight. Owatonna's forecast for today has also changed to reflect less than an inch accumulating today, and another 1-3" tonight in potential snowfall. Rochester is also forecasted to get about an inch today and another 1-3" overnight.
This storm has changed since Wednesday where the forecast was calling for 4-7" of snow to fall in the Rice County area.
There is a Winter Weather Advisory in place for a majority of Southern and Central Minnesota for today into tomorrow. The advisory calls for slippery road conditions from the 3 to 5 inches of snow that could fall. Wind does NOT appear to be a factor with this system moving in.
