The State Preliminaries for individuals in wrestling in Minnesota were held Friday and Saturday with the top two in each weight class advancing to the finals next weekend.

The revamped tournament this year included what was called a Super Section.  It combined wrestlers from two sections hitting the mat in an attempt to finish in the top two at their weight and advance to the Championship Weekend at St. Michael-Albertville High School.  Section 1 Class 3A and Section 2 Class 3A wrestled in Farmington.

Class 3A top ranked Shakopee is in Section 2 and sends seven wrestlers to the Finals weekend individually.  That is half the weight classes.

The results list ties for sixth place because there actually was no wrestling to determine who placed 5th and 6th in a weight class.

Faribault Falcons Freshman JT Hausen placed second at 113 pounds after suffering a fall by Blake West of Shakopee in 3:15.  He is the only Faribault wrestler to advance but a number did participate in the Super Section.  The others listed as 6th place finishers were:

  • Bo Bokman, 8th, 106 pounds
  • Elliot Viland, Freshman, 120 pounds
  • Gael Ramirez, Sr.  145 pounds
  • George Soto, Soph., 182 pounds

Advancing to next weekend from Northfield is 106 pound 8th grader Jackson Barron who lost in Super Section finals to Alan Koehler of Prior Lake by Fall 3:42.  He is the only Raiders wrestler to advance.  There were a couple third place finishers.  Other Northfield results include:

  • Chase Murphy, Sr.  126 pounds, 3rd place
  • Jake Messner, Jr.   132 pounds,  3rd place
  • Gavin Anderson, Sr.  145 pounds,  4th place
  • Jayce Barron,  Soph. 182 pounds, 4th place
  • Beau Murphy, Sr. 120 pounds, 6th place
  • Sam Holman, Sr.  138 pounds, 6th place
  • Owen Murphy, 8th. 152 pounds, 6th place

From Owatonna sophomore Cael Robb placed second at 120 pounds and advanced to the Finals weekend.  Junior Landen Johnson won the 160 pound competition with a 3-1 decision over senior Colton Sund of Prior Lake and senior Matt Seykora placed second at 182 pounds. Other Owatonna results:

  • Trey Hiatt, 7th, 106 pounds, 6th place
  • Kanin Hable, Jr. 126 pounds, 6th place
  • Jacob Reinardy, Jr. 152 pounds, 3rd place
  • Andrew Nirk, Jr.  195 pounds, 6th place
