According to a press release from the Faribault Police Department yesterday afternoon one person was in custody and one suspect was still being sought by law enforcement after a shooting occurred at the Days Inn in Faribault. The victim, a 27-year-old male, was airlifted from the scene to a Twin Cities hospital.

The Faribault Police Departments press release states:

"On Saturday, April 11th, at approximately 10:36 AM Faribault Police Officers and Rice County Deputies responded to a shooting incident located in the parking lot of the Days Inn at 1920 Cardinal Lane.

Upon arrival, officers determined a 27-year-old adult male had received a gunshot wound to his chest after an altercation. The victim was transported to a metro hospital by air ambulance and is being treated for his injuries.

Officers interviewed witnesses and determined that two other mid-twenty adult males were allegedly involved in the altercation. One male was detained and questioned by detectives and admitted to shooting the victim, claiming self-defense. That male is currently being held for court for 2nd-degree assault.

The second involved male had fled on foot prior to police arrival to the scene but police were able to identify him through witnesses. Search warrants were executed and two firearms were recovered at the scene in various locations. As officers began to process the scene, Faribault Police, Rice County Sheriff’s Deputies, and MN State Patrol began a search for the subject that fled in the Northwest Faribault-area along Interstate 35 near Sage Glass. The team utilized multiple canine teams, the drone with thermal imaging, field searches, and the Minnesota State Patrol air division to search the area.

Dispatch, per the Faribault Police Department, also sent residents and businesses in the area of the search an alert to watch and for the subject and to contact law enforcement immediately if they were to observe anyone suspicious. The subject wanted for questioning is a 27 year old black male, 6’3”, 160 pounds, shaved head, wearing a plaid shirt or coat.

As of the time of the press release, the subject wanted for questioning is still at large. Law enforcement did recover a plaid shirt in a field in the industrial park during the search and unknown if it is related. The investigation is ongoing.

Faribault Police Chief Andy Bohlen commented that it was a “Great team response by all area law enforcement and our thoughts are with the victim and his family. The fact that two firearms were recovered at the scene causes me to be grateful we did not have more people injured.”"
