Owatonna Police Are Looking For A Stolen Boot, Have You Seen It?
This isn't a case of missing footwear, but the Owatonna Police are looking for a stolen car boot that was cut off of an offender's car. Being that the book is supposedly bright orange, it might be rather easy to find if the perpetrators simply tossed it someplace else.
**UPDATE** The boot was cut off of the violator's vehicle and taken from the scene. Suspects are uncooperative at this time. We are hoping a citizen will come across the boot, so we can see if it is repairable. Thanks!
BOLO: The Owatonna Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in locating our stolen parking "boot." If you have any information on its whereabouts, please contact the police department at 507-451-8232. Thank you for your assistance.
It's not clear from the post where the violator's car was parked when it had the now missing boot placed on it. But those commenting on the post certainly felt like they knew where the car was parked.
The cost of a traffic boot ranges on Amazon between $27 and $95, but the cost typically to have a boot removed, legally, is anywhere between $40-300, or more according to personalfinance.costhelper.com.
"Depending on local regulations, a boot is usually placed on a vehicle that has more than a specified number of outstanding parking tickets. It varies by location, but typically to have a boot removed the vehicle's registered owner must pay all outstanding tickets and fines plus a boot-removal fee of $40-$300 or more for passenger vehicles; some municipalities charge a higher fee of $200-$400 or more if the boot is on a semi-truck or other heavy-duty commercial vehicle." - Personal Finance.Costhelper
AVVO.com a legal 'advise' website has an example of what a person can see in terms of charges if they remove the boot undamaged.
Any individual who tampers with or removes a boot on any vehicle without authorization of the City will be guilty of a violation and subject to a fine of not more than $250 or 15 days in jail.
So who knows where the missing boot is from the Owatonna Police Department?
