Seven Owatonna High School students will advance to National DECA in Atlanta, GA. Dylan Meiners qualified with a fourth-place finish at the Minnesota DECA State Conference. He will be joined by state officers Hillary Haarstad, Audrey Simon, Claire Heyne, Preston Meier, Cael Dowling and Connor Ginskey for completing chapter campaign projects.

Meiners took fourth place in Principles of Finance. OHS also had finalists Avery Becker in Human Resources Management (7th place), Lauren Thamert for Employment Interview Advanced Level (7th place) and Ezra Oien in Integrated Marketing Campaign - Product (8th place). Those who placed in the top four are eligible to advance to the national event.

Three Owatonna students received medals for their test scores. That includes Becker for Business Management and Administration, Cael Dowling for Entrepreneurship and David Smith for Business Management Core. OHS had 66 students take part in the state conference.

In a news release from OHS advisor Scott Pierce, it is stated, "MN DECA is an association of marketing students. Members participate in written projects, role plays, testing, and interviews. Over 1,900 students participated in the MN State Conference from throughout the state of MN."


OHS senior Fardouza Farah has has been announced as a Coca-Cola Scholar recipient for a $20,000 college scholarship. She is one of 150 students from a pool of nearly 70,000 applicants to earn the scholarship.

The three-step selection process takes a student's leadership, academics and service into account.

A news relase from Owatonna High School states, "Farah is actively involved in the Justice Education Project, International Central Asian Project, Speech, Mock Trial, National Honor Society, Students Helping Others Choose (SHOC), Green Team, Girls United, Student Council, and Color Guard. She is also president of the Minnesota Youth Against Sexual Violence Organization."
