According to a news release issued this morning by Tom Halden, Director of Communications for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Pope Francis has named Archbishop Bernard A. Hebda as the new Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.

According to the release, upon being told of his appointment, Hebda said he was “humbled by this expression of Pope Francis’s confidence and honored to serve this Archdiocese with its rich history and its long tradition of extraordinary priests, zealous Religious and empowered laity, all working to put their faith into action.”

Hebda had been serving as apostolic administrator of the Archdiocese since June 15, 2015. As well as being the coadjutor of Newark, New Jersey.

The Archdiocese serves a 12-county area, including churches in Faribault and Kenyon.

Hebda’s Installation Mass is scheduled for 2PM Friday, May 13, the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima, at the Cathedral of Saint Paul.
