You don't have to be loony to enjoy watching loons. The Minnesota state bird is one that brings about great pride and a grin to many Minnesota faces when one graces you with their presence. Sadly for many Minnesotans that opportunity only happens via the Minnesota Bound Loon Cam, and for the 2nd year in a row that camera will not be turned on.

According to a post to the Minnesota Bound Live Loon Cam Facebook page, the live camera for this year won't be operating again. The post states:

Dear fellow Loon fans,

We are very sad to announce that we will not be operating the Live Loon Cam for the year 2021.

We have appreciated your support and love for our beautiful state birds. We’ve enjoyed hosting this live cam as a way for all of us to witness Loons in their natural habitat.

Larry is planning on updating his blog when he can get through to it. You can find his blog here http://mnbound.com/larrys-loon-blog

We are very sorry for this announcement. We hope to continue the Loon Cam in the future. Thank you for your support and thanks for watching Minnesota Bound.

While a reason is not stated as to why the live loon camera is not operating, I am going to go out on a limb and think that COVID-19 has something to do with it. Larry Backlund from Central Minnesota is the man behind the loon camera, according to the Minnesota Bound website.

Last year, there was no loon camera, and this year it appears the camera will be dark too.

Fans of the live loon camera reacted to the news.
