Reaction To Adam Sandler’s Tribute To Chris Farley

By now you have probably either heard about or have seen Adam Sandler's musical tribute to SNL alum, former comedian Chris Farley, that he performed to close out SNL this weekend. While the song, which was released in Sandler's Netflix special about two months ago, maybe new to some the reaction from social media over the weekend and into today has been HUGE. 

Reaction on Twitter late Saturday night into early Sunday morning was significant with Warner Bros. Records, and former Buffy the Vampire Slayer Kristy Swanson among the many weighing in on Twitter about the performance.

Personally, I grew up watching all of his movies, box office bombs and all. From Beverly Hills Ninja, Billy Madison, Tommy Boy, Coneheads, Dirty Work, and Wayne's World. Of course, there was his rise to stardom with SNL and his many characters. Just how different would his legacy have been if he had lived beyond 33-years-old? It's been widely reported that the character of Shrek was modeled after Farley and his IMDB page states that he "was originally cast as the title role in Shrek (2001) and even recorded the dialogue. However, after his untimely death, the role was given to fellow Saturday Night Live (1975) performer, Mike Myers."

There was just something about Farley that many people seemed to connect with and enjoy. To this day, I can still recite verbatim, scenes starring Farley in Tommy Boy and Black Sheep, much to the chagrin of my mother and wife.

Farley is said to have been cursed by three roles he had been rumored to have taken on or be involved with. Those roles were an adaptation of the novel A Confederacy of Dunces, portraying Atuk in an adaptation of the novel The Incomparable Atuk, and allegedly agreeing to star as comedian Fatty Arbuckle in a biographical film about the comedian. Also 'cursed' and dying young after being linked to these projects? John Belushi and John Candy.

We can look back on friends, family, and celebrities after they have left us and take away different memories. For me I prefer to think of Farley as one of the funniest comedians and or actor of all-time and after seeing Sandler's tribute to Farley on Netflix and again this weekend I will honor him in my own way and watch Tommy Boy tonight with my usual dumb grin on my face, and laugh at every scene I've seen hundreds of times.
