The Rice County Area United Way is embarking on their first campaign since a merger between the Faribault and Northfield nonprofit United Way chapters.  The merger came about when former Faribault United Way Executive Director Adam VonRuden informed his board he was leaving in 2018.

Rice County United Way Executive Director Penny Hillemann will stop by KDHL for AM Minnesota 9:30 a.m. today to give us more details about the current campaign.  Hillemann was previously the Executive Director of the Northfield Area United Way.

According to information provided to KDHL from Hillemann the fundraising goal this year is $470,000.  $370,000 in Northfield and $100,000 in Faribault.  Both those goals are a "modest" increase over the totals raised last year.

Over 99% of the funds raised stay in the local community.

Hillemann says programs that are funded by the United Way serve one in three Rice County residents.

This year donors have the option to specify if they would like to see their dollars specifically spent in the Faribault or Northfield areas or both.  Donors can also choose to have their money spent specifically on one organization.
