Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police were called to a home Wednesday morning and found a dead dog in the backyard swimming pool.

Police Lieutenant Tom Faudskar says officers were sent to the residence in the 1300 block of 21st Street Northwest around 7:30 in the morning after the neighbor noticed the front door to the home was open and spotted the pit bull mix floating in the four foot deep above ground pool. The dog's remains have been sent to the University of Minnesota for examination to determine the cause of death. Lieutenant Faudskar says the officers also found extensive damage inside the home.

After contacting the person living in the home, police identified her ex-husband as the suspect and later arrested 32-year-old Octavio Nique. He is expected to be charged with second-degree burglary, stalking, violating a domestic no-contact order, and animal cruelty.
