Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -

A Rochester man, who admitted being part of an online group chat that shared pornographic images that included child pornography, is being given a chance to have 10 felony charges reduced to misdemeanor convictions.

An Olmsted County judge today sentenced 33-year-old Bryan Borland to 5 years on supervised probation and 90 days in jail with work release privileges. His sentence includes a stay of imposition, which means if he meets the terms set by the judge in his order Borland's conviction on 10 felony counts of possession of child pornography will be downgraded to misdemeanor offenses.

Borland entered guilty pleas to the charges in January. They were filed against him in October 2020 following an investigation by Rochester police that was prompted by a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The criminal complaint indicated the IP address provided in the tip was traced to a Rochester business. Investigators then discovered Borland worked at the business and an email address was linked to his phone number.

A search warrant was obtained, which led to the discovery of folders containing more than 100 pornographic photos. Most appeared to depict males under the age of 18 and the charges against Borland alleged that at least one of the images appeared to be of an 8 to 10-year-old child.
