Shipping Season Underway at Duluth-Superior Harbor

Duluth, MN (Learfield News Service) -- The 2019 shipping season is officially underway in the Twin Ports of Lake Superior.

The Duluth Seaway Port Authority says the Kaye E. Barker became the first laker to pass under the Aerial Lift Bridge and depart Friday afternoon. The ship was bound for Two Harbors to load iron ore and make her way to Indiana Harbor. The Barker was escorted by the U-S Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw.

The Barker was also the last traffic into Duluth-Superior to close the 2018 season on January 15th.
