Mankato, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears the snowstorm that hit southern Minnesota on Tuesday contributed to a fatal traffic crash Wednesday morning. The State Patrol says the deadly incident occurred around 8 AM on a snow and ice covered section of Highway 14 between Mankato and New Ulm.

One person was killed and 2 other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries when an eastbound van collided with a westbound pickup truck. The deceased was the 41-year-old New Ulm man driving the van, while the injured parties were the passenger in the van and the driver of the pickup. The name of the victim has not been released and the incident remains under investigation.

The heavy snow and some icing were blamed for hundreds of traffic crashes and vehicles spinouts throughout Minnesota, including about 20 crashes that resulted in injuries.
