It's been two weeks since the home of Jerry and Barb Peterson was lost to fire and investigators are hoping for more leads soon.

Goodhue County Chief Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Lerfald tells KDHL they still have not received any identification of the individual found in a burnt vehicle outside the Peterson residence in Kenyon New Year's Eve.

He did say they are continuing to investigate.  Attempting to determine which happened first.  The fire in the home or the vehicle.  The Petersons were in Arizona at the time.

The initial call came in as the Kenyon Country Club on fire but when firefighters arrived they saw the Peterson house ablaze.

The Kenyon Fire Department was assisted by the Wanamingo Fire Department in responding along with the Kenyon Police Department and Goodhue County Sheriff's Office.

Lerfald also stated there have been no missing person reports which would help in their investigation.  I told him even though I live alone I would assume if I didn't show up for work several days authorities would be getting a call from them.

The fire was phoned in 6:14 p.m. December 31, 2020 as a structure fire in the 45000 block of Highway 56 Boulevard in Holden Township.

Upon arrival firefighters located human remains in a "burnt vehicle parked outside of the residence."

Lerfald says the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.

The remains were sent to the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office to provide positive identification of the deceased.

The autopsy has been performed but authorities are not even saying at this point whether the person was a man or woman.
