Hey, at this point sports are sports. We gotta take what we can get.

The 3M Open golf tournament that is set for Blaine, Minnesota is still slated to happen July 23rd-26th. This year being spectator free due to COVID-19.

In a statement, Denise Rutherford, 3M’s senior vice president of corporate affairs said:

Even without spectators, the 3M Open will remain a platform to give back and build more resilient communities. Sports has the unique ability to unite people and that has been a cornerstone of 3M’s partnership with the PGA TOUR for many years. We look forward to strengthening our social impact through the 3M Open Fund with this year’s tournament.

The PGA tour event has been happening at TPC Twin Cities which is a course known for innovative design and a reverence for nature. The event is a huge fundraiser for Minnesota charities, boasting the tagline "Golf That Matters":

3M Open Fund Donated $1.5M in 2019 to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, the Science Museum of Minnesota, and the National Park Foundation. This year they are also hoping to raise money for COVID-19 relief causes.

The 3M Open team did have what they called parallel plans in place in the case of a smaller scale crowd being allowed to form, but at this point they had to make the difficult choice to have it be spectator free. The PGA Tour resumed play spectator free after a 91-day hiatus last week and plans to continue with that same order of operation for the next three events.

Last year the 3M Open inaugural tournament was won by Matthew Wolff, marking the first PGA TOUR stop in Minnesota in 50 years. Who will take home that crystal trophy this year? We will find out on July 26th!
