This Was Just Named Minnesota’s Best In Show Beer

The first-ever Minnesota Brewers Cup was held on Friday night in Minneapolis and a bunch of breweries from Minnesota entered their beers for judging. But only one beer could be named 'Best in Show'. That honor goes to Utepils Brewing Company's Ewald the Golden. After looking through the results, not one Southern Minnesota brewery finished in the top-3 in any of the 24 beer categories. 

Over 500 beers from over 80 Minnesota breweries competed for the title of 'Best in Show' and to take the top honors in their beer class. You already know who took home the top prize of 'Best in Show', Ewald the Golden by Utepils Brewing Company, coming in 2nd place in the 'Best in Show' overall category was Canal Park Brewing Company’s Hank and Dabs Pale Ale, with 3rd place going to Three Twenty Brewing Co’s Happy Wife Porter.

Some of the craft-brewed names were just as creative as their flavors. My personal favorite of the bunch belonged to Back Channel Brewing with their light lager entry titled 'Horny Sidekick.'

Some bigger names in Minnesota brewing also submitted beers to be judged with the most familiar name being August Schell Brewing Company, which also happens to be the oldest brewery in the state out of New Ulm.

There were more than just awards for beer, the most innovative brewery award went to Modist Brewing out of Minneapolis. Southern Minnesota got some love as Mankato Brewing took home half of the best collaboration award with the other half going to Lupulin Brewing Co.
