Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Thousands of homes and businesses have reported power outages across southern Minnesota in part of the aftermath of the winter weather storm that continues to strike the area.

People’s Energy Cooperative issued a release that said the cooperative is experiencing a widespread power outage in the southern portion of their service territory due to broken and leaning poles caused by ice and wind. There are also numerous reports of power lines down and on roads. Crews continue to work in the field to restore power as quickly as possible.

According to area outage maps, approximately 7,000 homes and businesses are without power in the Freeborn/Mower Cooperative Service territory, while approximately 3,000 homes and business are without power in People’s Energy Cooperative territory. Rochester Public Utilities is answering scattered small power outages throughout the city.
