The Medford girls' basketball team opened up a crucial, busy week with a 61-35 win over Tri-City United at the Medford gym Monday. The Tigers improved to 10-0, while dropping the Titans to 8-4. Both teams are in Section 2AA. Medford is in the South Subsection, while TCU is in the North. Tuesday, Medford plays at Maple River (8-4). Both teams are in the South Subsection.

Medford jumped out with the first six points and led wire-to-wire Monday, although Tri-City United made a quick push to pull within 10-9. Medford went ahead 23-13 with 6:15 to go and led 33-20 at halftime. The Tigers forced about 15 turnovers in the first half, turning several into fast-break points. They also handled occasional back court pressure put on by the Titans.

The Tigers also scored the first six points of the second half and built their lead to 46-24 with 13:30 to go. Coach Mark Kubat was able to empty the bench by the closing minutes and the Tigers' winning streak reached 14 consecutive regular season games.

Emma Kniefel and Kiley Nihart each scored 16 points for Medford. Kniefel scored 12 of her points in the second half. Nine players scored for the No. 19-rated Tigers. Kinsey Cronin added 8 and Bailey Purrier and Alorah Wiese each scored six.The only area the Tigers seemed to struggle was the free throw line, shooting 5-for-14 and missing the front-end of a one-and-one a few times.

After the game at Maple River Tuesday, the Tigers host Blooming Prairie (7-3) Friday.
