While most of Minnesota claims to have two seasons, winter and road construction, Owatonna can claim three seasons: winter, road construction and the Steele County Fair. A couple of those have crossed over this year with several big road construction projects going on in town.

While none of the major work is occurring in the immediate vicinity of the fairgrounds, getting around town has been slowed a bit. Workers in the industrial area have had to find different paths to the fair for their lunch break. A change in the traffic pattern along West Bridge Street is about to take another turn.

The City of Owatonna and contractor IMG announced an update of a pending traffic switch effective Thursday, August 19. "Both directions of traffic on West Bridge Street between 24th Avenue and Park Drive will then be closed. Prior to the closure of the 24th Avenue intersection, the Park Driver intersection and both directions of travel east of Park Drive will open to traffic."

Check this map for detour route.

The news release states, "Construction on West Bridge Street is anticipated to continue throughout the summer with traffic control changes occurring as work progresses. All work is scheduled to be substantially complete no later than October 30, 2021."
