The Wanamingo Jacks thwarted a ninth inning rally by Owatonna to defeat the Aces 3-2 at Chuck Fuller Field today.  It was hot but the breeze helped make it more tolerable.  The first pitch temperature was 87 degrees at 2:01 p.m.

Wanamingo was the home team in Owatonna because their field hasn't been cleared for use.  Alex Roosen started the game pitching.  After retiring the first two batters on ground balls there were back to back walks.  Aces outfielder Quinn Christenson took an 0-2 pitch to left field scoring Kodey Kiel.  Third baseman Tyler Smith ended the inning with a fly out to center.

In the bottom of the first inning Gavin Roosen smacked an 0-2 pitch for a single.  Sam Roosen had a one out 1-2 count single to put the Jacks in business.  Alex Roosen hammered a 2-0 pitch for an RBI single to tie the game.  Following the second out Aaron Holmes worked the count full before singling to center for an RBI.

Brady Anfinson came in to pitch for Wanamingo in the second inning.  Following the game Alex Roosen told KDHL he didn't feel quite right on the hill prompting the change.  Anfinson retired 12 straight batters striking out 5 before allowing a hit in the 6th inning.

Owatonna pitcher Brandon Wolf also settled into the game retiring the next 9 Jacks batters after the first inning with 2 strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Wanamingo left fielder Aaron Bauer stroked a single to left field and ended up at second base because the left fielder dove for the ball and let it get by him.

With two outs Brady Anfinson hit a solid single to left field and Bauer scored on a perfect slide to provide what would eventually be the winning run.  Bauer would have been out without executing the slide.

The Jacks would have only one more players on the bases the rest of the game.

In the top of the sixth inning the Aces looked like they had something going when shortstop Dexter Leer and Kiel singled to put runners at first and second with one out.  Cleanup hitter Matt Simon hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.

Owatonna never said die in the ninth inning.  After two outs to start the inning Christenson hit a no doubt home run over the extended right field fence 300 feet away to cut the lead to 3-2.  That was followed by three consecutive singles to load the bases before Anfinson achieved his sixth strikeout to end the game.

Anfinson threw the final 8 innings allowing 6 hits with 6 strikeouts, no walks and a hit batter.  He threw 115 pitches, 27 in the 9th inning.  Simon's homer came on a 1-2 count.

Wolf had 113 pitches in 8 innings.  79 for strikes, allowing 6 hits with 5 strikeouts, no walks and a hit batter.

It was a huge Twin Rivers League game with just a week left in the regular season.  Both teams are 3-4 overall.  Wanamingo is now 3-3 in league action while Owatonna is 2-4.

The Jacks travel to Austin for a 6:00 p.m. game Sunday while Owatonna hosts Winona at 2:00 p.m.
