The Owatonna Police Department announces the upcoming retirement of two longtime law enforcement officers. Between succession plans and promotions, the department is also seeking new officers to join the force. Captain Eric Rethemeier retires at the end of January after a 31-year career. Sergeant Andy DeVinny retires at the end of February after 25 years of service, according to a posting on the police department page on the city's website.

Owatonna Police Chief Keith Hiller says, "If you see these officers, please thank them for their dedication to Owatonna and our department. They each have a solid history of serving our community and a strong commitment to providing professional, caring law enforcement for our citizens. Our community is fortunate to have benefitted from their years of service."

In a news release, Rethmeier states, "It is the right time for the next generation of police leaders to have their opportunity to lead."

Sergeant Josh Sorenson was promoted to Captain in September, 2021 as part of the succession process. He also filled in for Captain Jeff Mundale who spent several months in the FBI National Academy leadership and specialized training program in Quantico, VA.

Two new officers will be hired shortly with an additional patrol officer position open as well. The release indicates, "Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply on the city's website at www.owatonna.mn.us to be considered in the selection process which consists of multiple steps to ensure any offer of employment is the best fit for both the city and the candidate."
