Waseca Co. Only MN County Over 50 Cases Per 10,000 In New Report

A week after the last 14-day COVID-19 Case Rate by County report came out with 6 Minnesota counties over the 50 case per 10,000 threshold, there is only one county on that list this week. Waseca County continues to see it's number go up. This week Waseca County is at 85.07 COVID-14 cases per 10,000 residents, up from last weeks 74.96 rating. The latest data is from the 14-day range of 8/30 to 9/12.

The threshold of 50 cases per 10,000 residents is used in the guidance issued by the Minnesota Department of Health for schools to adjust their learning models from in-class learning to a hybrid model and finally at rates over 50 cases per 10,000 residents to a distance learning model.

When schools switch to an all distance learning model it often means that any athletic teams competing at the time are not allowed to participate.

In addition to Waseca County seeing an increase, Dodge County also saw it's case rate increase from 6.80 to 11.17. Freeborn County, which saw in county high school Albert Lea postpone athletics last week due to some concern over COVID-19 also increased in the last week from 13.10 to 20.64.

Rice County on the other hand went below 10 cases per 10,000 residents for the first time since this type of report came out with data from July 19th - August 1st.
