COVID-19 is the dream-ruiner of the century, but there's always a silver lining with everything. One of the pandemic's was stimulus payments, and luckily, the Waseca County fairgrounds will get to share in some stimulation thanks to federal COVID-19 funding.

The Waseca County Board approved funding last Tuesday for two projects at the 'aging' fairgrounds.

It sounds like the largest concern at this time is roof issues on buildings #7 and #8. The cost of the roof repairs is approximately $44,000.00.

The 2021 Waseca County Free Fair is July 14-18. It's hard to know what the coronavirus will look like this Summer, but I am trying to stay hopeful, especially as we see more and more Minnesotans getting vaccinated.

Naturally, the fair was cancelled last summer, but the County still had vendors come in July and August as some vendors depend on the business and citizens couldn't get enough of their 'fair food fix.'

This year will include many staple vendors, who are ready to re-do the last year. I'm personally most excited for Grandma D's Kettle Corn.

In addition, new this year (if everything goes on as planned) will be a talent show/competition at the Free Fair! To sign up, you can fill out this google doc.

The MN Minn-E-Rods Tractor Pull is Wednesday, July 15 at 6:30 on 8th Ave NE, and Thursday, July 16 brings us some bull-riding entertainment. For more information about the grandstand events, visit the Waseca County Free Fair website.

Here's to hoping for a COVID-19 free summer!
