The Hayfield Vikings fastpitch softball team had 7 hits and the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers 2 hits in the nine inning game.  It's the runs that count and the Buccaneers managed 1 to walk off Hayfield in the classic game in Austin.

The winning run scored with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning when pinch hitter Emma Woratschka lined the ball to the pitcher and Autumn Taylor tagged up from third base and scored.

Also key for WEM was a sacrifice bunt by Ellie Ready to get Taylor to third base, Taylor husting in safely to set up the dramatic end.  Jordan Green had the other hit for the Buccaneers.

The victory means Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (18-3) wins the West Subsection and will play East Subsection champion Wabasha-Kellogg (12-10) 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at Todd Park in Austin. The winner of that game is one win away from state.

Hayfield (11-10) will play Mabel-Canton (12-10) at the same time in an elmination game.  The winner will play the loser of the Buccaneers, Falcons game 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Winner of that game advances to the Section title game Thursday at 5:00 p.m.  There could be a second game that evening.  All games played at Todd Park in Austin.

Gloria Cortez went the first six innings for the Buccaneers throwing 77 pitches, 53 strikes with 2 strikeouts, 1 walk, 7 hits allowed.  Addyson Taylor got the win with 3 innings of no hit ball throwing 36 pitches, 25 strikes, 5 strikeouts, 1 walk.

Cait Hendrickson went the distance for the Vikings with 14 strikeouts, 3 walks, 2 hits.  She threw 107 pitches, 75 strikes.

No Hayfield players had more than one hit.  All 7 hits were singles.
