Cannon Falls Setter senior Jaci Winchell is the new set assists leader in Bombers volleyball.  During a 3-0 win in Medford tonight Winchell surpassed Hailey Huseth for the record.

Cannon Falls Head Coach Melissa Huseth took a time out and presented her with a plaque honoring the accomplishment.  The neatest part of getting the record may have been the fact that her assist went to her younger sister freshman Karsyn Winchell who got a no doubt kill to help her get the record.

Winchell went over the 2,000 career assist mark during the Class AA Volleyball Showcase in Burnsville last weekend.  The record had been 2,046.  After a 38 assist night Winchell has 2,051 and with every set extends her record mark.

The final scores were 25-16, 25-20, 25-22.  The score was tied at 22 in the third set with the Tigers on the serve but an error gave the ball back to the Bombers and sophmore hitter Madison Burr got a solo block resulting in a kill for the final point.

All things considered Medford put up a good fight against the #3 ranked Class AA team in the state.  The Tigers were without the services of their top hitter senior Clara Kniefel due to illness.  Her younger sister sophmore Annette Kniefel had a awesome night.

My unofficial statistics had her with 9 kills and a service ace.  Senior Hannah Schull had 6 kills for Medford, classmate Isabel DeLeon finished with 5 kills, junior MacKenzie Kellen had 5 and junior Andrea Bock finished 5 kills.

The official statistics had Burr with 16 kills and senior Halle Hustad 11 kills on the night.

Senior libero Bree Robinson led the Cannon Falls defense with 11 digs.  Jaci Winchell and Burr had 8 digs each, Karsyn Winchell and Hustad each had 6 digs.

I said before the match the Milo Peterson Ford of Kenyon Keys to the Match would be blocking.  In particular for Medford, but the Bombers finished with 13 ace blocks.  Burr tallied 6, Hustad 4 and junior Elle Lind 3.

Cannon Falls finished the night with 39 kills, 13 hitting errors (my count), 49 digs, 4 ace serves, 39 assists.

My unofficial statistics had Medford with 33 kills, 18 total errors, 3 service aces.

The Cashwise Foods of Owatonna Delivery of the Match was a double dig WOW effort by Tigers setter senior Julia Niles and junior Andrea Bock on the same point.

The ball was crushed by the Bombers, Niles got the dig and after it was smacked very hard back Bock made a diving save to continue the point which Medford eventually won.

Cannon Falls had no answer for the repeated slide kills from Hustad and Burr.  Both players are around 6 feet tall and had their way on those plays.

The Bombers record is 14-4.  They will participate this weekend in a tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.

Medford hosts Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Thursday, then participates in a tournament this weekend. The Tigers record is 4-4.
