Join River Bend naturalists on Sunday, December 13, from 9-10:30PM as they view the best meteor shower of the year! The Geminid Meteor shower occurs December 4-17, but the peak of the meteor activity will be December 13 atnd 14. Stargazers are expected to see up to 120 meteors per hour at this time. Luckily, the moon will set soon after the sun, so the sky will be especially dark for stargazing. Participants will take a short hike and will sit outside to observe the shower, so dress warmly. In between meteors they will learn to identify some winter constellations. Bring a chair or a blanket if desired. Warm drinks will be provided.
The Geminid meteor shower program is open to all ages. Cost is $5 ($3 for River Bend Nature Center members). Preregistration is encouraged but not required. For more information or to register, visit River Bend’s website at www.rbnc.org or call them at (507) 332-7151.
