Friday's Power 96 Cool One came from Seattle's alternative rock band, Alice in Chains. From their self-titled and third studio album I chose their single "Grind" as my Cool One. It was the lead single and opening track on the album. Written and sung by Jerry Cantrell with Layne Staley backing him up, "Grind" made it to No. 18 on the U.S. Billboard Alternative Songs chart and No. 7 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The album, which was released on November 7, 1995, topped the charts at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200. It was also the final album with Layne Staley on lead vocals and the first one for new bassist Mike Inez. Staley unfortunately died, alone in his home, of a drug overdose on April 5, 2002, and wasn't found for about two weeks.

Please take the time to join me this afternoon at 4:35PM for the next Power 96 Cool One brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts in Faribault.
