On Friday I decided I needed to hear a little Iron Maiden to wrap up the work day. So for the Power 96 Cool One I chose their single "2 Minutes to Midnight" from their fifth studio album, Powerslave. The single peaked at No. 25 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and No. 11 on the UK chart. The album made it to No 11 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and No. 2 in the UK.

"2 Minutes to Minute" alludes to the imaginary Doomsday Clock, used by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists that shows the countdown to a global nuclear disaster. Interestingly, the one of the B-sides for today's Cool One was called "Mission from 'Arry" and was a secret recording that lead singer Bruce Dickinson made of an argument between bassist Steve Harris and drummer Nicko McBrain. Harris needed to replace his bass during McBrain's drum solo, so he sent a roadie over to have him extend the drum solo but it screwed him up because he couldn't figure out what the guy was trying to tell him. After the show McBrain confronted Harris about the way it was handled and that's when Dickinson began recording.

Don't miss today's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, at 4:35PM. It features a track from an album that was recorded live but then all the crowd noise was removed before it's release.
