Yesterday's Power 96 Cool one came from local artist Mark Allen. You may have seen Allen performing with the Key West Rejects, or maybe as a solo performer at a local pub or event. Allen has a new Americana CD, called Whiskey Sweet, recorded at the iconic Sun Studios in Memphis, Tenn. His new CD is filled with tunes that he wrote, played acoustic guitar, harmonica and handled the lead and backup vocals on. His wife, Julee, also lent her songwriting skills on the track "Love This Place."

Allen stopped by the studio on Tuesday to talk about his new CD and played a couple of tracks from Whiskey Sweet live in-studio. You can check them out on our YouTube page. One of the songs Allen played happened to be my favorite one off the album, so I decided to give it another spin as the Cool One for yesterday. Titled "Down the Road," it's a catchy, upbeat toe-tapper that makes you turn it up more and more as the song progresses.

Allen is throwing a CD release party for Whiskey Sweet tonight at The Grand in Northfield at 7PM. There's a donation cover charge at the door, with a portion of the proceeds from the CD sales being donated to military veterans.

Today's Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly's Auto Parts, comes from a band who tried and failed with a publicity stunt involving the famous Hollywood sign. Listen at 4:35PM to find who today's featured band is on Power 96.
