Minneapolis’ own Soul Asylum was yesterday’s Power 96 Cool One. I pulled “Somebody to Shove” off their Grave Dancers Union as my featured track. It reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and No. 9 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The triple-platinum 1993 album spent 76 weeks on the charts on the strength of several well-received singles including yesterday’s Cool One, "New World," "Without a Trace," "Black Gold" and "Runaway Train," which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy in 1994 for Best Rock Song.

Soul Asylum started out as Loud Fast Rules in 1981. Over the years they've released 11 studio albums, two live albums, 22 singles and more. They just released an album in March of this year titled Change of Fortune. Unfortunately, much like their earlier albums, it failed to chart.

Join me this afternoon at 4:35PM for the next Power 96 Cool One, brought to you by Kelly’s Auto Parts on Seventh Street in Faribault.
