Recently we asked you, the Power 96 listeners, to nominate military families in the area for a chance to receive a Christmas gift of $500 from Power 96. After pouring through all the entries that you sent we final made the decision on this year's recipient.

This year's Christmas is going to be a little brighter for the Sean and Michelle Horness family. I was lucky enough to meet with Michelle and her wonderful son, Bradley, when they stopped by the studio to pick up their $500 gift card. She was very excited and they had many plans for how they would use the windfall this holiday season.

The winning entry was sent in by Michelle's mother, Susan Johnson, and she thoughtfully wrote:

"I would like to nominate my Son in Law, Specialist Sean R. Horness and his wife, my daughter, Michelle Horness, for the Townsquare Cares Veteran’s Day Giveaway 2015. Sean is currently serving with the Minnesota Army National Guard unit from St. Cloud, Minnesota,in Kuwait. Michelle and Sean have had quite a whirlwind past year or so. They were engaged in September 2014 and planned a wedding for August 2015. Four months into their engagement they found themselves expecting their first child. Their wedding was then moved to May 2016 only to be changed again to December 2015 with Sean’s impending deployment. They were excited to be joined as a family in December with each of their children, Jonah, 6 and Sophia, 5 and 2 month old son, Bradley. They celebrated their marriage and shortly after Sean deployed to Kuwait. With Sean gone Michelle has spent her time caring for their children and holding things together on the home front. Michelle, Jonah, Sophia and their new son Bradley are looking forward to Sean’s return and to celebrate with some much needed family time. Bradley only being 2 months old has only gotten to know his Dad through Facetime calls. Should they be chosen for the Townsquare Cares Veteran’s Day Giveaway they would love to put the money toward some much needed family time or possibly a honeymoon that they didn’t chose to take over spending time all together before his deployment. They are currently renting a home and also look forward to finding a house to call theirs also. Their holiday would be a just a bit cheerier too. I would feel, much honored should they be chosen. Thank you for considering Sean and Michelle Horness and family for this award."

Thank you to those who donated to our Townsquare Cares program to help military familes. Also, thank you to everyone that sent in an entry, there were so many deserving families it was very hard to choose. And thank you to the military families everywhere that have loved ones serving here and abroad for all your sacrifices to help ensure the continuation of the American way of life.
