Thanksgiving is now upon us and, for those of us who have 4 legged family members, it is hard to say no to those begging eyes. I am guilty of giving my parent's dogs little treats off the table, after all, they are just so cute.

Some of the items that we prepare for our dinner are ok for the dogs, and some of them are definitely not. PetMD has a great slide show that shows what is good, and not so good, for your pets.

1. Yes to the turkey; Turkey can be a wonderful lean protein to share with your pet. You will just want to be sure to remove any excess skin or fat, stick with white meat, and make sure there are no bones

2. No to alliums; Nothing with alliums (i.e., onions, garlic, leeks, scallions) should be ingested by your pet. While it is true that small, well-cooked portions of these foods can be okay if your pet is used to it, ingesting these foods in large quantities can lead to toxic anemia.

For the rest of the list, as well as great pictures of animals, go to the PetMD website.

I have 2 cats in my house, and I do not share table scraps with them, even though they do beg. I will share with dogs, only because they beg so much better.
