My wife and I took advantage of the nice November weather and decided to visit my favorite local woods, Caron Park. This 60-acre park is about two and a half miles northeast of Cannon City and and is a remnant of the Big Woods Forest. I haven't been out to there in a long time and was pleasantly surprised to see that there has been an expansion of the trails throughout park. This work was done by the Cannon River Offroad Cycling and Trails group. They've established a few winding and challenging trails to try out your mountain biking skills on. One of the trails runs along the face of a very steep hill and eventually makes its way to the split rock at the top. I wasn't able to explore all the trails they had constructed, but it looked like a fun ride that seasoned riders would enjoy but even beginners will be able to handle.

The creek and falls were still running high and quite picturesque. This falls is the reason this park is one of my favorites. Admittedly it's not a huge waterfalls but the way it makes its way over the flat smooth slabs of rock and into the pool at its base is very relaxing to me. The creek is fun to wade in during the hot summer, if you can stand the mosquitoes.

Whether you like to hike or bike, this is a fun park to explore. Give it a try the next time you've got a chance.
