Sometimes in life, it's about being in the right place at the right time. Last week I highlighted Chad the cat, as he has been at the Mower County Humane Society for almost 10 years. This week I figured I'd highlight another adoptable pet, as studies have shown having a pet during a pandemic is actually beneficial to people. This week we have Scruffy the cat and he has been at the Mower County Humane Society Shelter for 4 years.

Scruffy, which is just the name he has at the shelter you can change it should you adopt him, has some special needs but they aren't overwhelming. Scruffy who was found in Brownsdale in 2016, has developed glaucoma in one of his eyes and requires daily eye drops. My friend Michaela at the Mower County Humane Society gave me some more information about Scruffy.

Scruffy, "is about 4-5 years old and he is a very easy-going, loving guy." Scruffy takes his twice-daily eye drops "very easy which is positive!" He "was previously neutered when he was found."

Scruffy's eye drops are an added cost, but it's not too bad when you consider what you spend in a month on grocery's. Michaela told me that Scruffy's eye drops will cost about $50 and last on average a month and a half at a time.

Both Michaela and I agree that if you are able to and can change the life of a “special needs” animal that you shouldn't be afraid of doing it. Personally with out 3-legged cat it's been a rewarding experience for us to have him tearing it up around the house and playing with our other pets. At the end of the day when you adopt a pet, you are providing them with a home, and caring for their needs however great or small. .

Change a life forever and adopt Scruffy by reaching out to Mower County Humane Society.
