The latest thing to hit my email has been we caught you going through a red light. Last week it was, our camera caught you speeding.

Be careful and pay attention to where the email comes from, and what it looks like. It looks very different than all my other emails. The lettering is different, and that may be how they rope people in, it might look more official than the other emails.

The email says,

Message intended for: Chris Allen

Mr./Ms. Allen, our traffic cameras recorded you running a red light on December 26, 2020. As such, you have been charged with a traffic citation.

You may contest this citation in court, or pay the fine online at You may do so no sooner than January 08, 2021, and no later than January 12, 2021.

Thank you for your attention,
Department of Transportation

Looking at that right now you will know it's fake. Why would they put Mr/Ms? If it was the real law enforcement, they would know I'm a guy. Second, it's from the Department of Transportation. Wouldn't it say MN Department of Transportation? Third, I talked to someone in law enforcement, they would not send an email, it would be snail mail with a pic of you going through the light, with all the information spelled out on the ticket of who to call, where to contact, and when your court date is, not a link in an email.

The third thing that told me this was fake. Look where the email is from.

.According to Reader's Digest, the camera doesn't catch you, most of the time it's a sensor on a traffic light or one in the road. So in the Northland, with the snow, that road sensor probably doesn't work right or isn't even there. Most states don't allow pictures with the driver's face, and some states take a pic of the license plate to prove it was that car that went through the light.

So, again, there is the picture proof that you would be sent if you went through the email. I'm not sure what the scam is, I've never followed the links. Here's the way to get proof if the ticket is real. Take it into the law enforcement office and ask.
