The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights scored first but their lead didn't last long Thursday night in Cannon Falls.  The Bombers erupted for four runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to defeat the Knights 9-2.  Cannon Falls junior Roan Reardon went the first four innings on hill for the win.  The lefty operated from the stretch entirely and picked off a Kenyon-Wanamingo runner in each of the first three innings.

Reardon threw 71 pitches, 38 for strikes.  Fanning 2 and walking 3.  He allowed 4 hits and was 9 of 18 in first pitch strikes.  Bomber senior Hayden Strain then pitched 2 and 2/3 innings with 5 strikeouts of the 9 batters faced.  The lefty also operated completely from the stretch while allowing just one hit and two base runners.  Cannon Falls senior Chase Reber finished the game by striking out the last batter looking.

Kenyon-Wanamingo senior Jack Beulke threw 95 pitches in 5 innings while taking the loss for the Knights.  59 of the pitches were strikes.  He had one strikeout, walked three and allowed 13 hits.  He was relieved by sophomore Tate Erlandson who threw a scoreless six inning with a strike out and two walks while throwing 16 pitches.

The Knights took the lead in the top of the first when freshman first baseman Owen Hilke smacked a RBI single to score Beulke in the first inning.  Beulke had doubled with one out and one of the Milo Peterson Ford keys from first year head coach Kirby Vandewalker before the game was to score first in the contest.

In the bottom of the first Cannon Falls started the game with a single by Strain that was stretched into a runner had third thanks to a two base error in the outfield.  Seniors Gage Hildebrandt and Chase Reber followed with back to back singles and before Beulke could get settled in it was 3-1.  Reardon hit a sacrifice fly for the second out, junior catcher Graham Pearson singled and freshman first baseman Riley Miller had an RBI single to account for the rest of the first inning scoring for the Bombers.

Cannon Falls added a run in the second inning when they achieved back to back doubles by Strain and Hildebrandt with one out.

The Knights had scored a run in the second when a Bombers error allowed a single to be stretched into three bases for freshman third baseman Tyler Craig and he scored on a RBI single by junior Luke Steberg.

Cannon Falls tallied three runs in the fourth when Strain led off the inning with a walk, Hildebrandt singled and Reber clubbed a RBI double.  That was followed by a Cody Miller sacrifice fly and Pearson RBI single.  The inning ended when Pearson's courtesy runner Alex Engebretson was thrown out trying to steal second base.

The bottom of the fifth inning started with an error allowing Riley Miller to get on base and he scored on an RBI single by Strain,

Cannon Falls finished the game with 13 hits and two errors, leaving 7 runners on base, 6 in scoring position.   Kenyon-Wanamingo had 5 hits and 5 errors in my scorebook with 3 runners left on base and 2 in scoring position.

The game took 2 hours and 10 minutes with a starting temperature of 52 degrees and a finishing temperature of 46 degrees.

Strain finished the game for Cannon Falls by getting on base all four times he was up with three hits and three runs scored.  Hildebrandt also had three hits and scored two runs in the number two spot in the order and Reber collected two hits and two RBI in the number three spot.  Pearson had two hits also.

Our Held Bus Service Knights of the game were Hilke and junior catcher Micah Johnson.  Hilke finished the game with two hits and was on base all three times he batted and Johnson blocked a number of balls in the dirt and threw out two runners.

The 1-0 Bombers are scheduled to play at Hayfield Monday while the 0-1 Knights have Goodhue scheduled to play in Wanamingo Monday.
