Faribault Public Schools Superintendent Todd Sesker told KDHL AM Minnesota listeners today he is appreciative Governor Tim Walz is allowing local school districts to decide when and how to open.

The Faribault Public School Board will decide Monday which of the three plans should be used this fall.  Sesker says they have developed plans for each of the three models requested by the state to prepare for, fully open, hybrid and distance learning.

The final decision date for the open is August 17th.  Sesker believes in Faribault the elementary buildings will be welcoming kids back to the buildings with the middle school and high school buildings doing a hybrid.  The hybrid would have kids going to the buildings every other day and distance learning every other day.

Sesker pointed out new Covid Coordinator Haley Storms started a couple weeks ago and has helped in the development of some the plans to make the school buildings as safe as they can possibly be.  All students and staff will be wearing masks and students will be asked to wear them when they are on the school bus.

Buses will operate at 50 percent capacity.

The Faribault Public Schools Superintendent also says parents will be asked to take their children's temperature before leaving for school and if they have a fever or don't feel well keep them home.

Sesker points out there will be some positives among students and staff and if there are more than a few they may have to "pivot" the plan.  It could "pivot" to more fully open too if a vaccine is developed.  That's why Monday he will be asking the school board to give him the authority to make that decision without board approval.

Athletes will be required to wear masks during practices.  Staff will be screened at the start of the day to make sure they don't have a temperature or other symptoms,
